Having the Ability to Roll with the Punches

Picture of Molly in her crate today (while it was open and we were at work) for cuteness and carpet view.

When we bought our house in 2017, one of the first things I told Kalen was “We need to replace this carpet.” It was gross, beige, and stained in random places. The previous owners smoked in the house, and when we used the carpet scrubbed, the water was BLACK. It was disgusting and all I could think was that I didn’t want any future babies crawling on who knows what.

However, other expenses were more of a priority, and since the carpet, though gross, was still in decent shape, it took a backseat.

Until today.

That little shit tore up my damn carpet!!! I came home and she was subdued, and I saw that and my initial thought was “What blanket did she destroy?” I paused, and then said “THAT IS NOT A BLANKET, THAT IS MY CARPET!!!”

So now, our plans for a new deck that is better suited for entertaining are being shoved to the backseat, and replacing the carpet with some type of laminate “wooden” flooring is front and center.

I’m lucky in the fact that was have the money. Sure, it’s coming from our deck fund (something I’m still upset about), but we have it. I don’t have to worry about her doing further damage because we can go buy some new flooring, and replace the carpet. We’re not sure yet if we’ll do all the rooms, or just the living/dining area, or that plus the hallway and stairs (ideally, we’d do all the rooms, but we’ll see on the cost for that).

I’m frustrated beyond belief, but I’m also thankful that we’ve embarked on this FI journey and that we can afford to remedy this situation because of it.

Now, who wants to come rip up carpet and install flooring?

xoxo, Amber
